Well hello there, my name is Alexis Zajac. I’m based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and I was taught to paint by my father at the age of 7. Because of my love for art, I thought I’d apply that to my passion for fashion as well and studied at Savannah College of Art and Design for four years and graduated with a BFA in fashion design. After graduating, I moved back up north to pursue a career in fashion, ideally in New York City. Soon I discovered after interning for a fashion designer, Yoana Baraschi, finding your way into, and staying relevant in the fashion world is quite complex and challenging. In my mid-twenties, I found myself managing an upscale ready to wear boutique in Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia. While it was a positive experience in many ways, I didn’t feel like I had anywhere to grow from there, and it wasn’t the creative outlet I felt like I really needed. So, I left the job and immediately began modelling freelance for the next four years. My painting remained a hobby during all that time as it never really occurred to me to make it more than that. I thought artists were always starving! After constant advice from just about every loved one I had to make painting my main endeavor, I finally tried it. I started selling paintings I had been creating over the years, which lead to me being commissioned for artworks as small as 8”x11” inches to full-blown large-scale murals. I continue to work most often in acrylic paint, while I do sometimes experiment with other mediums. Generally, I create abstract, or surreal artworks, in a vibrant and striking color palette. I like to create pieces that people can’t help but stare at or talk about. Traditional or subdued are certainly not the adjectives I would use to describe my pieces, but I’ll let you decide for yourself!
